Frequently Asked Questions

I have broken or chipped a tooth. What should I do?

Please call us as soon as the damage occurs, and we will arrange an appointment. It’s important to see a dentist promptly, even if you are not in pain. Repairing the damaged tooth quickly will prevent further issues such as infection and decay.

What is considered a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is any issue which needs immediate treatment, such as an injury, infection, or severe pain. If you aren’t sure whether you require emergency treatment, please call our friendly team who will advise on whether an appointment is necessary.

I’ve had a tooth knocked out. How can you help me?

Losing a tooth is a serious dental emergency. As soon as it happens, please call us to make an appointment. The sooner you are seen, the higher likelihood that the root can be saved.

Immediately after losing the tooth, attempt to reinsert it into the socket. This will protect the root. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, please clean it and bring it with you to your appointment (if you have it).

I’m really suffering. Would I be better to visit Accident and Emergency?

We would not recommend visiting A&E except in cases of excessive bleeding, breathing problems due to swelling, or swelling around the eyes and neck.

Emergency departments do not usually have the equipment or expertise necessary to treat dental emergencies. Please contact us and our team will arrange to see you as soon as possible to address your issue.

I’m in a great deal of pain with a dental abscess. What do I do?

Dental abscesses require prompt treatment. If left untended, abscesses can cause serious problems, including possible sepsis. Please call us to arrange an appointment as soon as possible. Our dentists will provide treatment for the infection and prevent it spreading.

I’m worried I may need to have a tooth extracted.

Please do not worry. During your consultation, your dentist will decide whether it is possible to save your natural tooth, and will always try to save it wherever possible. If this cannot be done, your dentist will discuss your options regarding extraction and dental reconstruction.

I’m not registered with the practice. Can I still make an emergency appointment?

Yes. Even if not registered with us, we will still aim to treat you within 24 hours of your call.  We want to help you.
